The Sunday session at Mornington’s Royal Hotel is absolutely rockin’ this Winter and with four red hot muso’s who call themselves The Detonators, each growing up with music influences from Creedence, Stray Cats, George Thorogood and Charlie Musselwhite just to name a few, playing a rockin’ live music venue near you, you’d best prepare for an explosive ride when catching a gig. That’s just what ‘Doghouse Dave’ and The Dets boys have in store for Mornington’s Royal Hotel when they make their long awaited return this Sunday July 29.
The Detonators comprising of Rockbottom James- vocals/harmonica, Doghouse Dave-double bass, Paulie Bignell-Guitar and Eddie Fury on drums, have been gigging together since 1997 playing an infectious genre of roots, rock’n’roll, rockabilly, country and blues style to packed out crowds.
Their popularity has seen them gigging at numerous pubs and venues and at just about every festival Australia has on offer.
The bands popularity isn’t localized to Australia either. On several occasions they’ve toured Europe and played the festivals there.
Over the years The Detonators have recorded six CDs, which has been a whole band collaboration and highlights their original material allowing the guys to express their creativity in their loved genre.
The Detonators have a huge and loyal fan base and are kind of considered the ‘priest of roots rock n roll’. It is little wonder their reputation precedes them because recently they had their music on the film, ‘Charlie and Boots’ as well as the Australian TV series Underbelly and De Grassi High, an American TV series.
In fact they have the respect of some of Australia’s finest musicians including Cold Chisel who not only claim they are one of their favourite bands, but also had them as their support act at their Rod Laver gig recently. That’s a damn solid reputation to have by any means.
Expect lift off with The Detonators up-tempo and high-energy gigs with lots of dancing, jiving, jumping around and basically having a ‘blast’ of a good time.
The Detonators go BOOM this Sunday July 29 at Mornington’s Royal Hotel, 770 The Esplanade from 3pm. No cover charge.
