Phil Para Band Brings Blues & Brews to the Pier Front Bar
By PEARL HQ
Frankston's Pier Front Bar is closing out its run of winter Sunday Sessions in style. On Sunday 2 August, guitarist, singer and songwriter Phil Para brings his band to the Nepean Highway venue for an afternoon of Blues & Brews, and like every session in the series, entry is free.
Para is one of the country's most electric live performers. New Zealand-born and a professional musician since the age of nine, he took Jimi Hendrix as his guiding inspiration and grew into a player who can channel the styles of Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Santana before folding them into a sound that's unmistakably his own.
His reputation runs deep. Carlos Santana once offered a simple tribute: “I say Thank You Phil for keeping the music alive.” On stage, Para backs it up with the kind of showmanship (playing behind his head, and with his teeth) that has earned him a cult following and made him one of the most consistently booked acts in the country.
Expect a set that fuses blues, jazz, Latin and rock, mixing Para's original songs with reworked covers. It's an easy and free way to spend a winter Sunday afternoon on the Peninsula's doorstep.
