28 Days - 30th Anniversary Tour Home to Frankston

28 Days - 30th Anniversary Tour Home to Frankston

There's something genuinely full-circle about this one. 28 Days, the punk-rap outfit who cut their teeth at a Frankston skate park in the late '90s, are coming home. The band's 30th anniversary Part 2 tour lands at the Pier Bandroom on 3 October, and for anyone who grew up on the Peninsula with a wallet chain and a battered copy of Upstyledown, this is the one to circle.

The band's story is woven into local DNA in a way that's hard to overstate. Frankston produced them, the suburbs shaped their sound, and when Upstyledown debuted at number one on the ARIA charts in 2000 it felt like a genuine punk-kid-done-good moment for the whole region. Songs like Rip It Up, Say What? and Sucker weren't just radio fodder, they were the backing track to every Big Day Out queue, every Homebake afternoon, every Channel V countdown session spent arguing about whether nu-metal had peaked.

The Part 1 run of anniversary shows across major cities sold out fast, which prompted the band to take the tour further afield, into Queensland, Western Australia, and Tasmania, before that Frankston homecoming. It's the kind of decision that says a lot about where 28 Days' loyalties still lie. This isn't a nostalgia exercise by a band going through the motions either. By all accounts they're still bringing the same raw energy that made them essential in the first place.

The Pier Bandroom is a fitting room for it. The venue has a long history of hosting acts that punch above their postcode, and the Pelly Bar upstairs has seen more than a few sweat-soaked punk nights over the years. Worth noting before you go: the Pelly Bar is only accessible via stairs, and the venue is unable to provide wheelchair access due to its layout.

Dust off those camo shorts. Thirty years is worth a mosh.
