Defryme Defined

Local legends Defryme deliver a serious dose of nostalgia at the Espy on July 19 playing the entire Pure Killer album live from start to finish.

Formed in Mt Eliza in 1989, many people will remember the funk-metal band as one of the first local bands to make it big in the 90s with front man Quinn Gardener-Kane tipped as Mornington’s answer to Johnny Depp. He played alongside co-founder and resident Guitar Village guru Michael Richardson on bass, Robert Dexter on guitar, with earlier member Glen Millen on keys and now welcoming Pony Music’s Geoff Mison on drums replacing John Hall.

Fans will be eager to hear charting album Pure Killer which debuted at number three on the National ARIA chart and produced four charting singles including a cover of LL Cool J’s ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ and Defryme originals, ‘God Inside A Man‘, Purekiller and ‘Sanity’.

If that doesn’t jog your memory, the band performed regularly on Hey Hey It’s Saturday and both Triple J Melbourne and Sydney pumped their songs on high rotation.  In an era of The Truth, Chocolate Starfish and Horsehead, Defryme played all around Australia with the band’s tenacity and out of control performances winning over crowds throughout the country.

Show your support for some of the finest homegrown talent the Peninsula has ever produced and see Defryme at the Espy, 11 The Esplanade, St Kilda, July 19. More info go to espy.com.au.
