People lucky enough to live near the general store in Somers say they’ve spotted more celebrities enjoying a coffee there, than they’ve seen sashaying down the red carpet at a Hollywood opening.
Over summer, locals enjoying their caffeine fix have spotted A-listers like; Gotye, Sigrid Thornton, Kerry Armstrong, Geoffrey Rush and William McInnes along with artists, sportspeople and TV personalities all taking a break in Somers.
Store regular, Arthur O’Bryan says before moving to Western Port he was involved in the film industry where stars were a part of life. He recalls organising film opening galas for the Spice Girls, Rowan Atkinson and Kevin Spacey but now with two boys at Somers Primary, he is assisting School Principal, David Ingham with an outdoor cinema event to bring a bit of Hollywood to the sleepy bayside town. The film night, funded by Balnarring Bendigo Bank, will help raise funds for kids with special needs.
The Starlight Cinema by the Bay screens on Saturday 14th March on the school’s oval with a six-metre tall maxi-screen surrounded by pop up food vans. Rob Reiner’s, The Princess Bride (PG) will be followed by Billy Wilder’s, Some like It Hot (PG) starring the world’s most celebrated screen goddess, Marilyn Monroe. All money raised will help fund better access for children.
For people interested in cinema, star spotting, or just a top outdoor event for the family, you could do no better than grabbing your bean bag or picnic rug and heading down to Starlight Cinema by the Bay in Somers on Saturday 14th March at 7pm.
