The Sunday session each week at Mornington’s Royal Hotel has fast become the place to be, featuring great food, stunning Bay views and some of Australia’s finest Blues, Soul and Rockin’Roll touring artists ‘Live & Free’ each week. Labour day Weekend Sunday March 11, Blues siren Iseula Hingano and her multi-award winning band BLUE EYES CRY perform with some very special guests from 3pm.
Slick, modern and funky are words often used to describe multi-award winning blues band Blue Eyes Cry. Hardworking would be another. From the un-air conditioned comfort of their touring van, the band regularly journey from their home base of Melbourne to perform at festivals and gigs across the Australia including recent performances at this years Blues @ The Briars and Mornington Peninsula Blues Sessions.
Since the May 2013 release of their debut album, Sleepin’ Alone, Blue Eyes Cry have gone from strength to strength. Upon release, the album saw two consecutive months at number one in the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Chart, and continued to appear in the chart’s Top 25 for the next 12 months.
Following this, the band was awarded two prestigious Chain Awards in 2014 for New Talent of the Year and Song of the Year. Lead singer, Iseula Hingano, was awarded Female Artist of the Year in the 2013 Victorian and Tasmanian Blues Music Awards as well the band was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2013 International Song Writing Competition.
From the humble conditions of their touring van, Blue Eyes Cry have made the journey to perform at some of Australia’s biggest music festivals including Blues on Broadbeach, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Gympie Muster, Apollo Bay Music Festival, Bay of Islands Festival (N.Z.), Blues at Bridgetown, and Sydney Blues and Roots Festival to name a few. In between, Blue Eyes Cry can be found performing at many of the live music venues across Australia. It’s fair to say that they’re just as comfortable with large festival stages as they are with the sticky carpets of inner-city pubs.
Upon recording their second album, the band has teamed up with award winning producer and engineer Anthony ‘Tok’ Norris. The album encapsulates the energy of what many consider to be Blue Eye Cry’s greatest strength, their live show, whilst still having the production and refinement expected from a studio release. The end result is a slick, modern blues album with emotive song writing that goes beyond the standard blues formula, whilst still paying homage to the great artists of the genre.
Blue Eyes Cry is no doubt on the up and with a swag more awards surely to come, there is no better time to see them perform than at Mornington’s Royal Hotel Labour Day Weekend Sunday March 11. Show starts at 3pm with no cover charge. Royal Hotel, 770 Esplanade, Mornington.
