SOULTRAIN BACK WITH THE SUMMERTIME BLUES

Sunday Soultrain at Davey’s in Frankston is recognised as one of Melbourne’s integral Sunday sessions presenting some of Australia’s finest Blues, Soul and Rock’nRoll artists ‘Live & Free’ every week. In a year where Blues dominated local stages, Soultrain fans were treated free shows from artists like Jimi Hocking, Shaun Kirk, The Detonators, Itchy Fingers and many more. This year Soultrain returns for 2017 on Sunday January 8 with The Jump Devils followed by Rod Paine & The Fulltime Lovers on January 15.

The Jump Devils open a fresh season of Summertime Blues with a sound harks back to the days of the 40’s before the arrival of rhythm, blues and rock & roll. Naturally with up-tempo, infectiously danceable tunes ringing in your ears, it’s little wonder you’ll want to dance the arvo away at a gig like this.

The gutsy, raw blues sound of Rod Paine and The Fulltime Lovers smoothly transverses their acoustic, country, Chicago & folk blend blues making always for one hell of a low down dirty, smokin’ hot gig. You can guarantee it will be standing room only for their return to Davey’s Sunday Soultrain on week two.

A few years ago Rod Paine-Vox/harp, Dave Birtwell-guitar and Tony Harwood-elect/dble bass emerged from retro blues outfit The Redliners, to form with new addition of Ray Tully on drums, the smokin’ hot, Rod Paine and The Fulltime Lovers.

With one of Australia’s best blues guitarists, a killer rhythm section of 20 years experience playing together and the vocals and harp playing of blues veteran, Rob Paine, along with cool influences of Lazy Lester, Slim Harpo and Jimmy Reed thrown into the mix, it’s little wonder that the Fulltime Lovers ‘down and dirty’ vibe hits you in the face each time you catch their totally awesome gig.

These guys are seasoned pro’s and have rolled their way through the Australian Blues scene for over a quarter of a century, thus migrating the right corridors while earning their ‘chops’ through the blood, sweat and tears of playing ‘the blues’.

They won the 2013 Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society Blues Challenge and went on to represent Australia at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.

Rod Paine and the Fulltime Lovers are the real deal.

Sunday Soultrain returns on January 8 with The Jump Devils followed by Rod Paine and the Fulltime Lovers Friday on Sunday January 15 at Davey’s Hotel from 3pm. For more details contact the venue find Rod Paine on Facebook.
